With the raise of consumer concerns with foodborne health issues as well as industry focus on brand protection, more and more companies are using external agencies in order to certify and protect their products and safety procedures.
The merger of NSF and CMi would create a giant food safety assurance and certification company with global activities. It would enable food producing companies to step up with increased consumer concerns as well as comprehensive farm-to-fork food safety solutions on a global scale.
Both companies, NSF and CMi are providing audits, consultation and certification services for the food industry, covering the complete food supply chain. The goal is to deeply reduce the risk of contamination but food brand protection as well amongst others as the companies explained.
Their services will enable the food industry to proof and demonstrate their production safety against food regulators in compliance with national and international food safety standards and regulations. NSF also offers organic food certification as well.
Mike Thomas from CMi said, that the merger would bring two highly respected and experienced organisations together that would be able to gain a top leading position within the worlds food safety markets.
Clients accross the food supply chain, including food manufacturers, suppliers of food ingredients and food packaging materials as well as supermarkets, restaurants and the final consumer of food products would benefit from the merger, Thomas added.
NSF as being an independent non-profit organisation said the new structure would leave CMi as a standalone business within NSF International Food Safety LLC. One of CMi's new goals would be to enforce the companies standing within the European and especially the UK food market.
NSF has been designated by the United Nation's World Health Organisation (WHO) as a collaborating centre for food and water safety as well as indoor environment.
