Chinese food inspection and quarantine authorities are urged to make reports on Chinese food exports that need to be submitted to the Chinese government and the media on a regular basis. China has been put under pressure recently after a number of food safety issues has become public not only for the local Chinese food market but for Chinese food exports as well.
One of the new Chinese government regulations on food hygiene and food safety implicits that Chinese food exports and food exporters need to pay high fees in case of disobaiance against food inspection and food quarantine executives. Recent scares amongst Chinese food exports have been including tainted seafood and melamine in feed amongst other food quality issues.
China's food health issues have reached high levels in food imports to the European Union from China. About 50% of total food products that have been banned from the European Union market in the past year have been originated from China. All bans had been triggerd by food health and food quality issues found by European Union healthcare officials.
This has put pressure on China which said it will now intensely increase food safety legislation and supervision of the food manufacturing and food distributing industry. In addition China will now provide food safety reports to the European Union on a quarterly basis. China has almost doubled it's food exports to the European Uninon in between the years 2003 and 2006.
Besides the force of official food safety inspection teams China will also go the path to pay high rewards to persons that will report illegal practices within the food industry to them. The new reward system will now also include the possibility of anonymity to the reporting person. Also product recall obligations have been set to much stricter levels in order to better protect the domestic Chinese food market as well as food exports from China into other countries.
In the same attempt of higher food safety also new food tracing, inspection and labelling regulations will come into effect, that should assist in increasing the reputation of the Chinese food and beverage industry in the long run.
